Our Story

Historically, the story started since the creation of UTMCIAM (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Centre for Industrial & Applied Mathematics) in Dec. 2012. UTMCIAM have numerous activities involving capacity building and problem solving sessions with industries and communities. Obviously these require substantial financial support and with the current scenario of economic slow down, this model is thus unsustainable. Moving forward, to maintain UTMCIAM and the important & impactful signature activities, seemingly this requires innovative ways to generate finance and aggressive marketing of UTMCIAM’s expertise and “products” in terms of solutions-algorithms-codes-software-systems.

Further consultation with OCIAM (Oxford Centre for Industrial & Applied Mathematics) and Smith Institute UK, for a sustainable model, it was agreed that UTMCIAM must set up a dedicated business arm – MYHIMS Solutions LLP (MYHIMS – originally refers to Malaysian Hub for Industrial Mathematics and Statistics).

These two entities, UTMCIAM & MYHIMS Solutions, are planned to have a synergy based on the Quadruple Helix Innovation Model (Dec. 2016 – Feb. 2018). Since 2021, MYHIMS Solutions have evolved as an independent entity, though still having a strong relationship and collaborative engagement with UTMCIAM.

MYHIMS Solutions is now headquartered in Johor Bahru and is currently a pioneer for such consulting service provider in Malaysia that emulates Innovate UK: Knowledge Transfer Network and Smith Institute in the UK. MYHIMS Solutions provides problem solving services to industries through research and development based on industrial mathematics and statistics techniques and human capital training to improve the skills of industrial mathematics and statistics consultancy.

With the collaboration between academic researchers in the STEM field in Malaysia, MYHIMS Solutions will bring new dimensions and perspectives in the market of industrial mathematics and statistics consulting services.

Objective

MYHIMS Solutions serves as a catalyst in promoting academic and industry researchers collaboration to solve industrial issues. In addition, MYHIMS will also act as a quadruple helix interaction platform between academia, industry, government and the community. MYHIMS also acts as a marketing agent on industrial mathematics and statistics applications as an approach to solving industrial problems. Through the establishment of MYHIMS, it is hoped that more cross-disciplinary activities can be enhanced and knowledge transfer networks can be created.
